Makarova’s Proposal

Russian porn star Ekaterina Makarova, who goes by the pseudonym “Macy Ssens”, has recorded a video asking her country’s regulators to legalize cryptocurrencies.

In her video, she addressed Russia’s Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, as well as the Communist Party leader Gennadiy Zyuganov; the Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky; and A Just Russia Party leader Sergey Mironov.

According to a translation of her video, she said (loosely translated):

I am indifferent about the future of our country. Now ignoring cryptocurrency means ignoring progress. I think that the future is cryptocurrency. If we can now legitimize cryptocurrency [as] one of the first in the world, it will give the country a huge chance to be the world’s leader, this is my opinion.

She went on to urge the regulators to legitimize bitcoin as well as ether, adding that “then I will do what I can. I will translate into reality any of your fantasies,” Crimean news portal Ruinformer quoted her saying. At press time, there has been no response to Makarova’s offer from any regulators.

The Status of Cryptocurrency Regulations

State Duma Building.

As the news of Makarova’s offer broke on Monday, Russian regulators were having a meeting at the State Duma regarding cryptocurrency regulations. They are still in the discussion stage and have not come to a consensus of how to regulate them.

The central bank has repeatedly said that it opposes treating them as money substitutes. On Tuesday, at the Russian Derivatives Market forum, the bank supported the idea of restricting operations of external websites selling cryptocurrencies.

Meanwhile, both the finance ministry and the central bank are working on educating the population about cryptocurrencies. Furthermore, the central bank is in favor of creating a national cryptocurrency, Deputy Governor Olga Skorobogatova said last week.

Cryptocurrencies in Adult Industry

Cryptocurrencies, especially bitcoin, have been growing in popularity in the adult industry.

In May, a Las Vegas strip club called the Legends Room opened its doors and soon started accepting bitcoin and ether for payments. The gentlemen’s club wrote on its website, “you may purchase a membership using cash, credit card or digital currency…All forms of payment are accepted inside the club.”

Recently, news.Bitcoin.com reported on the online porn industry embracing bitcoin payments at an exponential rate. Porn sites that accept bitcoin range from small “camgirl” websites to large portals. For example, Amateur Canada, Hustler, Xhamster, Porn.com, and Naughty America accept bitcoin. “Bitcoin profit is not as big compared to traditional billing methods yet, but it’s growing,” according to Xhamster’s Project Manager. “And what’s very important for our members, it’s anonymous – actually pseudonymous.”
