Software Engineer, Coinkite

Peter Todd is a Bitcoin core developer and software engineer at hardware wallet Coinkite. Todd is best known as a top 25 contributor to the Bitcoin codebase.

Todd began contributing to Bitcoin in 2012. Additionally, he started a website in 2013 to publish technical writings related to Bitcoin, wallets, cryptography, and other cryptocurrencies. As of 2019, Todd has contributed over 100 commits to the open-source Bitcoin codebase, doing the bulk of his work between 2013 and 2016. He has also been involved with the development of crypto projects Mastercoin, Counterparty, Coloured Coins, and Viacoin and its associated ClearingHouse project. Additionally, Todd acted as a “witness” in the “Zcash trusted setup ceremony,” which was conducted at the time of Zcash’s launch, though he has been critical of the project.

In 2019, publicly filed court documents revealed allegations of sexual misconduct involving Todd. The statements were submitted after Todd filed a defamation suit in April of 2019 against transgender cryptographer Isis Agora Lovecruft. The lawsuit demanded that Lovecruft delete a tweet in which they accused Todd of sexual misconduct. Lovecruft and Zcash co-founder Zooko Wilcox both filed declarations in court that described Todd’s alleged behavior.
