Sony Financial Ventures is the latest investor in Securitize’s digital securities technology, joining Santander and MUFG.

Digital securities company Securitize announced a strategic investment from Sony Financial Ventures, in a press release dated Feb. 4. The unspecified level of investment marks an extension of Securitize’s latest funding round, which saw Santander and MUFG lead a $14 million round of investment capital, as Cointelegraph reported in September 2019.

Securitize is a compliance platform and protocol for token issuers that aims to modernize capital markets through the development of a digital securities ecosystem, facilitating easier owning, management and trade. These securities can represent a variety of asset classes, including equity, fund stakes, fixed income and real-estate.

Big backers for digital securities technology

This latest investment from Sony Financial Ventures adds “another marquee name to a growing list of companies who are investing in digital securities as the future of global capital markets,” according to Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo.

This list includes financial giants such as MUFG Innovation Partners, Nomura Holdings, and Santander InnoVentures, who also joined early investors, Blockchain Capital, Coinbase Ventures, and Ripple Xpring in the latest funding round.

A regulated platform

Last summer, Securitize received registration from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission to operate as a transfer agent. The firm then claimed to be the first such agent with a functioning blockchain protocol. At the time, Domingo said that official SEC registration would give comfort to potential investors.
